Palawan Hornbill
The Palawan Hornbill (Anthracoceros marchei) is a unique bird native to the forests of Palawan Island in the Philippines. Known for its striking black and white plumage, curved beak, and casque on its head, this hornbill is an important species in its ecosystem. Palawan hornbills are frugivorous, feeding on fruits, seeds, and insects, and they play a vital role in seed dispersal. These birds are monogamous and nest in tree cavities, where they seal the female inside with a mud wall for protection during incubation. Habitat destruction and hunting have made the Palawan hornbill vulnerable, emphasizing the need for its conservation.
