Chilean Flamingo

The Chilean Flamingo (Phoenicopterus chilensis) is a graceful bird native to South America, inhabiting shallow lakes, wetlands, and estuaries. Recognized by its pale pink plumage, long legs, and curved beak, this species stands out as one of the most striking members of the flamingo family. Their pink coloration comes from carotenoid pigments in their diet, which consists of algae, crustaceans, and plankton. Social by nature, Chilean flamingos form large flocks, which help protect them from predators. Although they are not currently endangered, habitat destruction poses a growing threat to their populations.
